People are amused by different types of entertainment in their lives and the definition of entertainment may not be the same for everyone but there are most identified types of entertainment that are universal. These include music, reality shows, story-telling, theatre and dance shows. This article is going to discuss and highlight one such renowned theatre, Southend Theatre in Essex. This entertainment theatre is basically situated in England near Westcliff on the sea - Southend. There are two main venues offered by this theatre; Southend Cliffs Pavilion and Southend Palace theatre. It is situated in such a location that people can approach it by either of the travelling whether it is by road, by train from London Liverpool Street Station, by bus or by air. Southend is at the estuary of the River Thames just where it reaches the sea.This theatre is around one mile from the town centre from where people can easily approach the theatre by road and by bus. There is a bus stop right outside the theatre where the bus arrives after almost every hour.  One of the biggest advantages of the location of this theatre is that Southend airport is located around 15 min away from the main entrance.Southend  Palace Theatre Many regular theatre goers comment that the shows on offer are comparable to those seen in the West End of London including the Gielgud Theatre and the Harold Pinter Theatre with fantastic artists.



Southend Cliffs Pavilion offers a spectacular domain of entertainments that also includes live shows and performances and dine-in as well. The theatre is designed in such a way that the auditorium can hold around 1,630 people at a time.  The construction work of Cliffs Pavilion started to begin at some stage in 1930s but due to the outbreak of World War II, the work had to be delayed till 1959. The building of Southend Cliffs Pavilion was completed in year 1964 when it started its live performances. Many famous artists performed during 1990s in this theatre. Some of these well renowned artists that have performed live in this theatre are Oasis, Blur, Boys II men, The Drifters and Gloria Gaynor. However, in year 1991, the theatre had to stop its source of entertainment for around a year since it was planning to enlarge its site. Stairs were built again, balconies were redesigned and thus more of the audience was able to get the entertainment during the live shows. Southend Cliffs Pavilion was built by the team of Tim Foster and the project was funded by Southend British Council. After the renovation of this theatre in the early ninety’s, the yearly figure of the crowd rose to 340,000 from 200,000.Back To Broadway The spectacular entertainment is sure to lift any depression.



Southend Cliffs Pavilion works the whole week except Sundays, when there are not performances and shows, are kept off. The theatre opens at 10 in the morning daily and closes at 8p.m. There are some of the differentiating factors that Cliffs Pavilion offer to the audience and that include performances by the most famous artists, special treatment to the disabled. The auditoriums offer infrared system and special elected areas for the people who use wheelchairs and a free chair is offered to the helper of that person. The reviews regarding this theatre on the internet show the friendliness of its staff and the quality of pre meal shows. Whenever you visit England, no reason is left to not attending one of the famous live shows in Cliffs Pavilion!

 

Let us provide one example of a fantastic show the author and his wife attended in March 2013 - Back To Broadway. There were exerpts from shows including Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Chicago, Les Miserables, West Side Story and Mama Mia. The cast were great singers and dancers.
